Romania: EPPO Investigates Suspected Corruption in Medical Equipment Procurement

This investigation concerns a procedure for the procurement of medical equipment worth around €1.5 million, carried out during the Covid-19 pandemic in 2021. Based on evidence, the specifications of the tender were allegedly tailored to benefit a specific company, which ultimately won the contract.

During the searches, evidence, including documents and electronic devices, was collected.
This investigation is being conducted with the support of the EPPO Support Structure in Romania (Structura de sprijin a procurorilor europeni delegați în România), the General Inspectorate of the Romanian Police – Directorate for the Investigation of Economic Crime (Inspectoratul General al Poliției Române – Direcția de Investigare a Criminalității Economice), as well as the Brașov and Mureș County Police Inspectorates.
All persons concerned are presumed to be innocent until proven guilty in the competent Romanian courts.
